Very interesting book that provided valuable insight into lifestyle changes that everyone can employ to ensure a more prosperous future.

Mar 19, Dina London rated it liked it. I finished this a while back, but, frankly, I've forgotten most of the details. The bottom line is that we are lucky to be growing old now as there are so many new disease treatments on the horizon.

From my perspective, that is all well and good, but we have to have a decent quality of life AND money to make those years enjoyable.

With the first of the baby boom entering retirement, seems like there are a lot of these books on the market now. The question is whether what is outlined is true real I finished this a while back, but, frankly, I've forgotten most of the details.

The question is whether what is outlined is true reality or something akin to a fad diet. Mar 05, Lynn Pinto rated it liked it.

Heavy content yes but no quackery yea and leaves you optimistic for the years ahead. Dec 10, Yycdaisy rated it liked it Shelves: health , genetics.

Much of this book deals with recent and about to be available medical advances using genetics or technology. On the way there are little side stories, for instance the treatment they devised for Steve Jobs, that are quite interesting.

Jan 27, Shari rated it really liked it Shelves: Agus, M. David Agus is a physician who has written several books on health. His latest book, "The Lucky Years", makes the point that medically we are living in the luckiest time yet to be alive.

He discusses the latest in science and technologies and how they will help you to customize your own health care in the near future.

He also reiterates prevention; especially the importance of nutrition, sleep, and exercise in www. He also reiterates prevention; especially the importance of nutrition, sleep, and exercise in maintaining a healthy body.

What did it make me think about? I came away thinking I should try to always eat between 7am and 7pm, move as much as possible, and always get a good night's sleep.

I also am going to ask my Dr. Lots to think about- including how fast new information changes what is being recommended. Should I read it?

If you are interested in the future of health, or even in just your own future health, then this book is very interesting.

Quote- "The explosion of medical information has far outstripped our ability to process it. This is why we need a new way to make personal health choices.

After all, we have already entered the Lucky Years, and those of us who have the information to take action will only get luckier.

I can't reiterate this enough: your right to pass into the Lucky Years is not predicated on wealth, personal resources, or social status.

In the old world of medicine, only those who could afford the surgery and expensive, exclusive therapies to look younger could benefit.

But now the game has changed. The Lucky Years don't discriminate based on money. They're a privilege of the prepared and knowledgable.

Aug 27, Gary rated it liked it. I like David Agus. I think he's one smart dude, and, no doubt, one hell of a doctor. I have now read two of his books.

But quite frankly, this book didn't do a thing for me. For one thing, this book was very much like his earlier book, The End of Illness.

For another, there were little picayune things that gnawed at me: casting aspersions on the Paleo diet without knowing what it is; raving about how statins and aspirin are good for you they're anti-inflammatory!

Also, he informs us that only 6 percent of medical studies are accurate. The others are wrong for one reason or another.

But he bases a lot of his assertions upon - you guessed it - medical studies. It makes one wonder if it isn't at least remotely possible that Dr.

Agus is wrong! He colors inside the lines and refuses to speculate on things outside of traditional Western medicine.

But if, like me, you've already read a dozen longevity books, this will strike you as, all in all, just another book in the wall.

Mar 05, Anne rated it it was amazing. I appreciate the common-sense approach to modern medicine in this book -- much as I did the author's first book.

His science is accessible and prescriptions for better health doable. This should be a must-read for anyone in their 20s so they continue to enjoy good health well into old age.

We pay for our poor health habits as we age, but this book gives hope even those with chronic illness can improve their situation.

Also appreciate the author admits advice from his previous book may not be goo I appreciate the common-sense approach to modern medicine in this book -- much as I did the author's first book.

Also appreciate the author admits advice from his previous book may not be good for everyone I'd wondered the same thing. That takes guts.
